概要

tkpeek は、Linux デスクトップ向けに開発中のファイルプレビューユーティリティです。

macOS には Quick Look という機能が搭載されており、ファイルをアプリで開くことなく、キーひとつで中身を確認することができます。tkpeek は、この体験を Linux 上で再現することを目指しています。

Linux の既存ツールとして gnome-sushi がありますが、これはファイルに対応したアプリケーションを起動する形式です。tkpeek はアプリを起動しません。編集は必要なく、ただ中身をちょっと確認したい——そのような用途に特化した、軽量で読み取り専用のプレビューを提供します。

名前の tkpeek は英語の口語表現 "take a peek"（ちょっと覗く）から取りました。そのイメージどおり、素早く覗いてすぐ閉じる、という使い心地を目指しています。

tkpeek is a lightweight file preview utility for Linux, currently under development.

It is inspired by Quick Look on macOS — a feature that lets you instantly preview file contents with a single keypress, without launching any application. tkpeek aims to bring that same experience to the Linux desktop.

While gnome-sushi offers a similar capability, it works by opening an associated application. tkpeek takes a different approach: it is read-only and transient by design. No app is launched, no file is modified — you simply take a peek and move on.

The name tkpeek comes from the English expression "take a peek", meaning to have a quick look at something. That lightness and immediacy is the core philosophy of the project.
